Beginners guide to carp Fishing, or how to catch big carp?
Carp are the most desired fresh water fish in the UK. The reasons for this are not too hard to understand, because carp quickly grow to a large size, providing us with good chance of coming across a fish of 20 lb and more. Carp also fight harder than any other species which makes the carp fishing experience at times fairly challenging.
Carp are not hard to catch when they are stocked in reasonable numbers but sometimes it can be a struggle to get through to a bigger one, let’s say 30 lb and more.
When carp fishing in a lake, it is almost certainly best to try to fish in only a couple of swims rather than trying many different areas, because by constantly baiting the same swims you are more likely to catch as many and as consistently as possible, and eventually get through to the bigger carp. You should also try to use good quality carp rods and carp reels. Nevertheless, initially do not bait any particular area, instead try to spread some carp bait in as many corners of the lake as possible so to allow carp to taste the bait. To achieve the best result, carry on for as long as possible by putting around 3 or 4lb of carp bait at a time, at least a couple of times a week. After this, select a couple of areas of the lake and continue to bait those areas with carp bait.
You should also be wise when selecting your carp fishing tackle. Carp get used to dealing with rigs because they come across them every day. It is therefore advisable to give the carp a bit more confidence by baiting areas with carp bait and let them feed freely. Boilies are excellent for big carp fishing but particles and carp pellets are not so much. You should also try to purchase your carp bait from only reputable carp fishing tackle suppliers, because good quality carp bait will increase your chances of success. But, if you really insist on using carp rigs, at least try to use the sharpest hook possible.
Do not be afraid to introduce carp bait repeatedly. Most carp anglers tend to think that baiting up once a session is enough. On the contrary, carp baiting should be no different to match baiting, therefore next time you are trying to catch the big one, don’t forget to bait your carp a little more often so to improve your carp fishing experience.
